Hockey Closure

Feb. 09, 2021

Good Afternoon,

This has been a very difficult and heartbreaking season. I would like to thank all of you for your patience and understanding as we navigated through this process, covid has made the process of making organizational decisions difficult. It has been our goal to provide communication when we received new relevant information from Alberta Health, Hockey Alberta and the Town of Redwater.

On February 1st, when the Government of Alberta updated their restrictions, it appeared that it would be a minimum of 5 weeks before minor sports would be allowed to start. After a lot of discussions with the Town of Redwater, the decision was made to remove the ice from Pembina Place, which brought us to the decision to bring the current season to an end. This allows them to move up their start date for the new construction of an ice plant and HVAC system. Which is great news for the future of RMHA, and Pembina place.

With the lack of games and practices that our players had, we will be issuing a 65% refund of Registration Fees paid in full. When a date has been determined, communication will be sent out, and the process will be to bring your home and away jersey to Pembina Place and you will receive your refund cheque. NO JERSEY - NO CHEQUE.

There have also been some conversations started with the Town of Redwater, for the potential of ball hockey at Pembina place. These talks have just started per the new government regulations, so nothing concrete as of yet. Current restrictions only allow 10 participants, and for indoor activities have a mandatory 3m social distancing requirement at all times so not yet applicable for drills or games.

As well the Town of Redwater will continue to maintain the outdoor rink for use.

I feel terrible for the kids of RMHA, it has truly been a tough stretch for them. However, all the decisions were made to keep everybody safe. As we look forward to returning to the ice for 2021/2022 hockey season, and the challenges it will bring, I look forward to seeing everybody in a Rush uniform come September.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me directly @ 780-288-4756, or by email Pres@redwaterminorhockey.ca

Thank you,

RMHA President
